Dear Parents / Carers

I wanted to write to you on behalf of the Pear Tree School Governors and thank you for your support of school in the last few months and also to thank you for your responses back to school regarding any planned return for pupils.  The Governing Body is working very closely with the Senior Leadership Team and any planned approach to school increasing its number of pupils has been discussed at length and will have had Governor approval.  You will all appreciate that the situation is changing very frequently, and our preparation and planning is continuous.  You should expect a dynamic strategy over the next few months and what is set out from early June will evolve.

The school’s Senior Leadership Team and the Governing Body will be carefully considering all requests for pupils to return as part of a rigorous risk assessment.  I also wanted to set the expectation that the school will only be increasing numbers attending very gradually.  This is to ensure the safety of all pupils and staff.  These risk assessments will be regularly reviewed and updated in line with any new guidance from central government, teaching unions and Lancashire County Council.

Parents will be informed about places next week by phone call.

It is important to clarify that any pupils who do attend in the coming weeks will have limited contact with other pupils and be cared for in the same very small group each week with the same staff members.  School will not be exactly like it was back in mid March when the school closure began.

Talking of the school staff, I am sure you will want to join me in giving them our extreme thanks for keeping the school open in these uncertain times for the children of critical key workers and those very vulnerable.  In addition, we must thank the staff team for their work supporting pupils and families at home with regular contact via telephone and home-schooling activity plans / ideas.

It is important to confirm that those pupils who are not returning to school before the summer holiday will continue to receive these weekly contact phone calls from staff and be provided with learning activities to be completed at home.

I want to assure you that at the heart of all decisions that are being taken is the objective of making our school as safe as possible.

Thank you again for your support of school and school staff.

Stay safe and best wishes

Justin Kimber
