In Elm Tree this half term we have been looking at the artist Frank Bowling. We have been using a canvas as our base and adding to it with paint, patterns and ‘found objects.’ Each week we have tried new techniques and watched how Frank created his work. We have created some outstanding and personalised pieces of work that we think even Frank himself would be impressed with.
In Literacy we have been on a journey to America when looking at the book Look Up. In the story we followed our main character Rocket, a feisty young lady who aspired to be just like her hero Mae Jemison, the first African-American female astronaut. We saw our lead sharing her passion and telling her community all about “THE AMAZING PHOENIX METEOR SHOWER!” We even replicated this in our classroom, it really was amazing! Following this, our students answered questions about what they had heard and went on to develop their writing skills.
We have worked very hard over this half term and hope you all have a well-deserved break,
Lots of love,
Elm Tree Class
