We came back to school in September to be the first ever Bay Tree Class. During the first half term, we spent time getting to know all the children and staff as well as the routines in our Class. We also took our learning outside of the classroom, using different areas of school, visiting the local park, St Michaels Church and a delightful visit to Book, Bean and Ice Cream for a cake and a milkshake…. or two!
In Literacy we were reading and learning all about the story ‘It’s My Birthday’ by Helen Oxenbury. We really enjoyed opportunities to act out key events from the story using the different props to support us, taking on the roles of different characters and remembering which animal brings which ingredient to make a group birthday cake. One group of learners were exploring different mediums using their hands and fingers but also learning how to use different mark making implements with more control. Another group were learning to make marks within a given area on a page and colour in a variety of celebration related pictures using different mark making implements, such as a paintbrush, pens, crayons, chalk and pencils. Others learnt how to write over their names, write their name from a visual prompt or even independently write their name from memory.
Over the rest of the year we will use this page to keep you updated on the learning taking place within our class. Each post will let you know what we have been getting up to and show you how hard we work in Bay Tree Class. We also have lots of fun which we are sure you would like to know about.
