We were happy to welcome back our children after a lovely half term. We have had an exciting story themed classroom this week with area’s to explore around the children’s favorite nursery stories. We love looking at nice books and reading to the children in class and so do the children, so we decided to follow this interest by enhancing our continuous provision to go alongside our much loved tales.
Our Sensory story has been all about the Gruffalo, by Julia Donaldson, with his terrible teeth and terrible tusks!!! The children all love listening to the story and exploring the props such as the little mouse and even the Gruffalo’s claws, so much fun. We also had the a few of Julia Donaldson’s Books in our reading area for the children to look at and explore.
We also had Gruffalo crumble from the story for the children to explore and get messy with in our sensory area, it was a bit messy we could use our hands or the spoons to have a good mix!
We had an Enchanted sensory area where the children could dress up as fairies or Knights with more books of interest for the children to explore with a little toadstool for the children to have rest if they wished.
In Numeracy we have been learning about 5 Ice cream’s in an ice cream shop, all the children had pennies to give the teacher for their ice cream as we counted how many we had. We were all very happy with our ice creams yum yum. We also sang the song ‘12345 once i caught a fish alive’ the children could catch there very own fish with a net, how exciting! and the children had to work really hard to use there fine motor skills whilst holding the nets and had so much fun trying to catch them. Well done Children.
