Welcome back after half term!!!
We have had a lovely week back at school the children have all enjoyed seeing their friends and sharing with the class what they have all been doing over the holiday! This half term we have been learning all about the hungry caterpillar and there are lots of exciting learning opportunities around class for the children to explore around this theme.
In Literacy we tell this very much loved story with props alongside for the children to explore. The caterpillar eats lots of different foods, so the children could choose if they also wanted to try some fruit or use their senses to smell. The children also found it very funny being wrapped up in a cocoon before the caterpillar turns into a beautiful butterfly. We finish the story with a very beautiful butterfly song and have lots of coloured fabrics that we can fly with and pretend we are butterflies too!
In Numeracy the children have been placing all the foods the caterpillar eats onto paper plates and with encouragement after counting the food items, the children could then choose the correct number to place on the plate, the children enjoyed this and had to work hard whilst counting.
We have all enjoyed some sunshine too this week in our playground. The outside area was turned into a garden centre where the children could make up plant pots with soil, pick fruit and vegetables from the wheelbarrow to buy or just have a good old dig in the soil. The children often played together with this enhancing their social skills and enjoyed some sensory play by getting a bit messy in the soil. We hope the sunshine comes back next week for more learning outside.
In Music this week we have been practising using different instruments and listening to their sounds. We then got to dance and move our bodies to the music, the children all enjoy dancing and practice our gross motor skills. We then used the parachute with all different animals that we could all look for our animals whilst dancing to the song and listening to what animal would be next. The children work really hard to have good listening skills for this and enjoy this lesson whilst dancing and singing along, well done children.
We look forward to seeing you all next week and hope you all have a lovely weekend.
Love from Seedlings x
