Compass Centre blog of the week: active mathematics and literacy

This week in the Compass Centre our learners have enjoyed participating in a range of active mathematical and literacy based activities and sessions.

During active mathematics, we have been continuing with our term theme 'space'. Our activities linked to space in different ways including: colouring in spaceships with colours dependent on their number, matching the amount of aliens to their corresponding spaceship, and ordering numbers 0-10 on a number line. In addition, some of our learners looked at different visual number quantities and played a game of shopping trolley bingo, recognising different prices and amounts in more detail, whilst socialising with peers. 

Within active literacy, our learners have enjoyed following step by step instructions (after ordering the instructions on their own), and successfully created their own pizzas and croissants. This activity helped our learners enhance their communication, independence and instructional skills.
