Elm Tree Class: Another fantastic week!
Date: 4th Oct 2024 @ 3:34pm
Hi everybody!
Welcome back to the Elm Tree Class blog! This week in Literacy we have continued to read our story, 'What Makes Me a Me?' and pupils have been answering questions about the things the boy compares himself to. Some pupils have used symbols to compose sentences about their favourite parts of the story. Oter children have been answering 'who, what, where, when and how' questions about what is happening on different pages. All this work is developing our understanding of the questions asked to write a newspaper report or magazine article, as pupils will be writing an article all about themselves over the next two weeks.
In Art we have started our Cubist self-portraits based on the work of Picasso. The semi-formal pupils will be making a collage by painting, cutting and gluing their facial features, and the formal pupils started by sketching out their self-portrait. They will be mixing their colours, shades and tints to paint their picture next week.
We have been learning lots of key vocabulary about sound in Science including vibrations, volume and pitch. The formal pupils have been exploring playing instruments of different pitches and then discussing if the sound they are making is a high pitched sound or a low pitched sound. The semi-formal pupils have been playing 'sound bingo' and using their observation skills to identify what was making the sound and if it was loud or quiet, and if it was made by an animal or vehicle.
That's all for now,
Have a great weekend and see you soon!
