Oak Tree Class: What an exciting week!
Date: 26th Sep 2024 @ 9:05pm
What a fantastic and busy start to the school year we have had in Oak Tree class! Everyone has now settled into the new class routines and some amazing learning has been taking place.
Our Creative Curriculum topic this half term is ‘All about me’. This has supported our current Computing topic, which has been Information Technology. The formal and semi-formal pupils have been developing their computer skills by working in pairs to be able to create a wonderful PowerPoint presentation, displaying pictures of the food, games, toys and films that they like. They have been researching and finding pictures on the internet, using the copy and paste tool to add it to their presentation and then have shared these with the whole class. Meanwhile, the pre-formal pupils have been developing their switch skills to be able to make a choice between two switch operated toys.
This half term, our Literacy story is ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’ by C.S Lewis. This week, the pupils have enjoyed developing their understanding of the story by using their communication boards to re-tell the story and then creating sentences about what is happening. They are now looking forward to creating their own stories based on this book.
Our Vocational Education topic this half term is ‘independent living skills’. The pupils have been engaging in lots of cleaning activities including hoovering, washing up, recycling and wiping the tables. They have also been making different simple snacks and drinks including a fruit salad and smoothie. They have been learning how to be hygienic by washing their hands as well as how to use a knife safely when cutting items, including using the claw and bridge grips.
Finally, in Numeracy we have been learning all about capacity and volume. We have been exploring items which are full, empty, half-full and nearly empty or full. We have then been estimating, comparing and measuring using non-standard measurements. Next, we will move on to using standard measures such as ml and l to measure the capacity of items around the classroom.
Have a good weekend!
