Seedlings: Blog Week of 5th July
Date: 9th Aug 2022 @ 11:31am
Hello everyone! What a lovely time we have had in Seedlings this half term exploring our new topic ‘Under the Sea’. We have been exploring lots of activities outdoors in the lovely weather, including our seaside sensory area with beach related props and dressing up which the children have loved. A big favourite this half term has been our sand and water play, we have explored the different textures, sounds and shapes of the shells and sea creatures and the water has been great at helping us all to keep cool in the warm weather.
Another popular area of the provision has been our outdoor ice cream parlour, complete with shaving foam, glitter sprinkles and ice cream scoops for us to make our own ice creams and to develop our motor skills.
In our role play area, we have enjoyed a seaside puppet show! We have used puppets to create own performances. The children have really made me giggle with their imaginative play. They all like to be the star of the show!
In literacy we have been reading the story, ‘That’s Not my Mermaid’. We are exploring a range of textures associated with the story and we have been working hard to independently explore the sensory items, whilst some of us have also been using key words such as “fluffy” to identify the texture.
In numeracy we have been learning all about shapes. We are getting very good at recognising 2D shapes as part of our lesson, and in our environment whilst we play! Well done, Seedlings, I have really enjoyed sharing this topic with you.
Our reading corner has been under the sea themed and the children have enjoyed sharing lots of stories, one of our favourites was ‘That’s not my Mermaid’.
