The Compass Centre blog of the week - Mothers Day and Red Nose Day
Date: 17th Mar 2023 @ 6:32pm
Happy Friday everyone, we hope you have all had a great week!
This week in the Compass Centre, alongside our pupils’ regular routined sessions, our learners have been focusing on creating cards and gifts for their mothers or important people to them for Mothers Day. All of our learners coloured in and/ or wrote in a special card. In addition, some of our functional students made hot chocolate cones and candles as a gift. To create the hot chocolate cones, they had to use key mathematics skills and weigh out the whole amount of hot chocolate and marshmallows and divide the amount by how many students wanted to take a gift home. They then had to follow the instructions of adding each amount of hot chocolate and marshmallows to the cones and attach a lovely Mother’s Day note. When making the candles, some of our functional learners went to Sixth Form and produced them as part of their Enterprise session. These learners worked together, with excellent communication and added each ingredient needed. They chose their favourite scent, melted their preferred coloured wax and added these ingredients to a container of their choice. After this, they prepared an order form and created a poster for advertisement to sell their product to staff and students. Great job guys!
In addition to the Mother’s Day preparation excitement, our learners have been engaging in activities relevant to Red Nose Day. They were given the choice to wear red clothing and donate £1 as a contribution to the fundraising money to be donated to Comic Relief, which focuses on amazing projects and organisations that are working towards tackling some of the biggest challenges society faces currently. Some pupils took part in various activities such as random act of kindness, gifting items that they have created to their friends and learning about how we can help each other and work together in a positive way. The Compass Centre staff also got involved, by bringing in home baked items and sharing their creations to represent and spread love and positivity.
Well done everyone in the Compass Centre!
Have a lovely weekend ??
