Elm Tree Class Blog 10/11/2023

Hi eveybody and welcome back to the Elm Tree Class Blog.

This half term our curriculum theme is Space, so we are reading a story about Neil Armstrong being the first man to land on the moon.  We have spent this week reading the story and getting to know about him and what he did before he landed on the moon.  Did you know he had learned how to fly and got his pilot license when he was 16?  We have also been watching videos of him flying the X-15 plane, ejecting when learning how to fly the moon lander and walking on the moon and talking about what we can see happening.

In numeracy we are learning about mewasuring lenth, height and mass this half term.  This week we have concentrated on measuring in non-standard units by using mulit-link cubes and paperclips to see how longdifferent classroom objects and pictures of rockets, the planets and astronauts are.  We have found that the answers are very different, so next week we will be using rulers and metre rulers to measure how long and tall things are.

In computing we have used Blue-Bots, OSMO coding and the Dot and Dash robots when learnign about algorithms.  We really enjoyed inputting different instructions to see what happened when we were tinkering, it was tryicky to stop the Blue-Bot falling of the table though!
