Numeracy in Oak
Date: 8th Dec 2023 @ 3:21pm
We have continued to be very busy in Oak Tree with lots of different learning opportunities taking place across the curriculum.
This half term in numeracy we have been learning all about shapes. The pupils have been working towards being able to identify both 2D and 3D shapes within the classroom and the local environment, which they have done amazingly well at. They have also been developing their understanding of the shapes properties including edges, face and verities. They have been able to demonstrate this knowledge by engaging in the game ‘Guess the shape’. They have had to use their listening skills to be able to listen to the shapes description e.g. what 2D shape has 3 sides and 3 corners? And what 3D shape has 6 faces, 8 verities and 12 edges? And then use their knowledge to work out what shape it is. The pupils also got to put this knowledge and learning into practice when building their own 3D models out of spaghetti and marshmallows. They really enjoyed making these models and had lots of fun eating the marshmallows at the end of the lesson.
Within the MSI group, they have been exploring shapes through different sensory and tactile experiences. They have had lots of fun engaging in this.
Have a good weekend!
