Achieving The Best We Can
In Everything We Do

Welcome Back to Oak Tree

Date: 10th Sep 2023 @ 3:31pm

Hello everyone and welcome back to the start of the new school year in Oak Tree Class. We have had a really busy first week getting to know our new friends and meeting our new staff. We will be sharing what we have been up to each week in our class blog, so please keep coming back to see what we have been learning about.

This week we have started reading our new class story, War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. It is a fantastic story set during World War One and follows the lives of a young horse called Joey and his owner Albert and how they both have different struggles but eventually have a happy ending. We have really enjoyed reading it this week and learning about the War.

In Numeracy we have started learning about capacity and exploring measuring using non-standard and standard measurements. This week we have been focusing on recognising if a bottle, box or container is full, half full or empty, nearly full or empty and totally empty. We have even started using this language outside of our numeracy lesson when looking at our water bottles and seeing if we need to refill them.

We have had great fun learning about our new artist in Art as well. We have been learning about Andy Goldsworthy who is an environmentalist and creates natural art using material found in nature. We all found it really funny that he has actually created a piece of art using cow poo! Some of the class have been creating fact files all about him, whilst others have been using natural material to make bugs. We are really looking forward to creating more Art work!

A date for your diary, Oak tree class assembly is going to be on Friday 29th September starting at 9:30. We will be sending out some more information regarding this in the coming weeks.

We hope you have a good weekend!
